Appreciating the little things

Have you ever eaten an ice cream on a hot afternoon after a good workout? Do you remember what it feels like when you take your first scoop of the ice cream? The coldness that brushes on the nerves of your tongue and penetrates through to your throat and the rest of the body. The sweetness that tinkles even after its first landing. The sweet cold lump that refuses to move and stays put in your throat and when you finally swallow it, the huge gratification you get despite the small thirst that begins to grow. But I suppose that is what it means when Shakespeare's Anthony says something along the line, she thirsts where she most satisfies.

The point is that many a times we fail to notice these small things in life. Many of us spend a huge point of our lives trying to escape from our problems and trying to find satisfaction in our lives in one way of or another. When we do not find that or when it does not meet our satisfaction we feel disappointed. I am not an exception of that.

However there are times when I just stop that normal fast pace button of my life and press that slow button and suddenly life looks so different, so beautiful. For instance I was taking the lift down my block and it stopped at the 5th floor and a toddler and his father came into the lift. The toddler looked at me and smiled and his father was encouraging him to say hi. He blushed and smiled and me. And I thought to myself how happy and lucky the toddler was to be. He had a lovely family and he is provided everything he needs. There are thousands of children like that who are not so lucky. I also thought how this toddler could sleep well without any worries and how all he had to do is play and be merry and be excited with the new things he learned. Life is so good for me and I appreciated the the time I was a kid. Things were good and they still are but there was a difference. I just forgot what it means to appreciate life. After the kid left I felt happy and once again I learn to appreciate what I have in life.

It is not easy to appreciate the things we have in life especially when times are bad. But someone once told me that if you just take a step back and turn the other way you would see that the scene is not that bad. In fact there is always an opportunity in every dark situation. It is just whether you want to see it or not. Life is full of opportunities, some just appear and some are lost but they will find their way if you choose to see them. But first take some time to appreciate what you have and trust me life would be rather nice and in some cases rather intriguing
